Out of nowhere

Time was when I would greet a Google job ad with mild interest and suspicion. Now I lurve my Gmail account, am a straight-to-Googler, and get tingles up and down the spine when this pops out of nowhere (OK, in a weekly job openings alert):

Google: Creative Maximizer – Taipei

  • Position based in Taipei, Taiwan.
  • Creative Maximizer (Internet copy writer and keyword expert) Do you want to be on the cutting edge of copy writing? Do words come easily to you? Do you have a knack for phrasing things “just right”? Are you too clever for your own good? Do you think you can write advertising copy? Google is looking for an excellent writer to “Maximize” the performance of campaigns that run on the Google site. You must be a careful reader and a persuasive, inventive writer. Most importantly: you must be an excellent communicator, sensitive to language, and comfortable composing in language on demand.
  • Google’s advertising program sells highly-targeted text ads that deliver performance up to 5x industry average for traditional banners. The Maximizers write and rewrite ad copy to improve performance. Attention to detail and excellent communication skills are essential because the Maximizer works closely with our Sales team and works directly with clients to coordinate and execute creative optimization of campaigns. The Maximizer must be analytical and creative and get results.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Proactively monitoring and analyzing performance of campaigns.
    • Developing keyword campaigns and writing advertising copy.
    • Managing keyword lists to deliver optimal client results.
    • Leading efforts to improve ad relevancy in your region.
    • Suggesting ways to improve performance.
    • Working closely with sales and client to implement suggestions.
    • Moving fast on maximization requests.
    • Communicating effectively in meetings, through email, and during sales.
  • B.A. (Liberal Arts degree preferred).
  • First rate communication skills.
  • Passionate about the Internet.
  • Passionate about words and their impact on advertising.
  • Outstanding academic background.
  • Proven writing and communication excellence.
  • Fluent in English and Chinese.
